Seasonal Aftercare — Your Garden, Supported Through Every Season
Handing over a newly designed garden is not the end of our involvement; in many ways it is the beginning of the garden's life. Young planting needs a little knowledge and the right attention at the right moments — and most of our clients, quite reasonably, don't yet have either. Seasonal aftercare is how we bridge that gap.
It is a service of guidance rather than gardening: personalised maintenance schedules, follow-up calls and honest advice from the designer who knows your garden best, so that what was planted with care matures exactly as intended.
What Seasonal Aftercare Is — and Isn't
To be clear from the outset, because it matters:

- A personalised maintenance schedule, written specifically for your garden's planting, telling you what to do and when
- Follow-up calls and visits to review how the garden is establishing and adjust the advice as it grows
- Direct access to your designer for those "is this normal?" questions every new garden raises
- Seasonal guidance on pruning, feeding, watering and division, timed to your plants rather than a generic calendar
Not included:
- We are not a maintenance crew. We do not offer ongoing physical upkeep — mowing, weeding, hedge-cutting and the like remain with you or your own gardener. What we provide is the expertise that makes that work straightforward and effective.
If you have a gardener already, the schedule becomes their brief; if you garden yourself, it becomes your companion.
A Year in a Designed Garden
Garden aftercare only works when it follows the rhythm of the seasons. Broadly, here is what the guidance covers as the year turns:
Spring
The garden wakes. Advice focuses on feeding, mulching, staking early perennials and watching new planting through its most vulnerable weeks.
Summer
Watering regimes for establishing plants, deadheading for continuous colour, and small interventions that keep borders looking composed rather than tired by August.
Autumn
The most consequential season for a young garden — cutting back (and knowing what not to cut back), division, bulb planting and preparing tender plants for the cold.
Winter
Structural pruning, protection during hard frosts, and a natural moment to review the year together and plan any refinements for the spring.
